Jira LaTeX: Math Equations & Formulas in Issue Tabs

LaTeX Math & Equations in Tabs for Jira puts LaTeX in Jira: write LaTeX equations and formulas in tabs on Jira issues and project pages, typeset with MathJax as you type.

LaTeX equations on any issue

Write TeX math and see it typeset with MathJax: matrices, aligned equations, fractions, sums, integrals. Formulas copied from JSON with doubled backslashes are read correctly.

Formulas, assumptions, decisions β€” in tabs

One tab per formula, with a short description above it. Reorder by drag and drop; keep a project’s reference formulas on its project page.

Templates and other diagrams

Clone all tabs to another issue to start from a template. Any tab can also hold a Mermaid, BPMN or Graphviz diagram, a Vega-Lite chart or a timing diagram.

Also included

  • Tabs on every issue and project page β€” title, optional description, one diagram each; rename, reorder by drag and drop, delete.
  • Six diagram types β€” BPMN 2.0 modeler, Graphviz, LaTeX Math, Mermaid, Vega-Lite charts and WaveDrom timing diagrams, with ready-made examples and clear syntax errors.
  • Clone tabs β€” copy a whole set to another issue or project page, after its tabs or instead of them.
  • Conflict-safe saving β€” Reload or Overwrite when someone saved first; up to 4 MB per issue.
  • Jira permissions respected, labels in any language, Jira’s dark theme.

Runs on Atlassian

Built on Atlassian Forge: tabs are stored inside your Atlassian site, diagrams render in your browser, and the app makes no external calls. See the privacy policy.

Drawing by hand instead? Excalidraw Whiteboard & Mermaid Diagrams for Jira puts a whiteboard with the same text diagrams on your issues.

Frequently asked questions

How do I write LaTeX in Jira?

Install the app, open the apps menu under the issue title and choose LaTeX Math Tabs, press Add tab, then Create diagram. The tab starts from a LaTeX Math example; edit the TeX and MathJax typesets it.

Can each tab hold a different kind of diagram?

Yes. Every tab chooses its own type β€” BPMN, Graphviz, LaTeX Math, Mermaid, Vega-Lite or WaveDrom β€” in every Tabs app; the app only decides the type a new tab starts with.

Are issue tabs and project tabs the same?

No. Every issue has its own tabs and every project page has its own; Clone tabs copies a set from one to another.

When are my changes saved?

Only when you press Save. One Save stores all tabs, titles, order, descriptions and diagrams of the issue or project page; if someone saved in the meantime you choose Reload or Overwrite.

Who can change the tabs?

Whoever may edit the issue in Jira. A project page's tabs can be changed by everyone who may edit issues in that project. Everyone who can browse the project sees them.

Does the app send diagrams anywhere?

No. Tabs are stored in the app's Forge storage inside your Atlassian site and rendered in your browser; a Vega-Lite chart never loads data from a URL.
